To reduce dependence on foreign oil and provide incentives to registered owners of high polluting automobiles to replace such automobiles with new fuel efficient and less polluting automobiles the house has introduced HR 1550 to provide up to $5000 for purchase of a new fuel efficient vehicle $4000 for a passenger automobile assembled in the US that get 27 miles a gallon or better and $500O if 30 miles per gallon or better.
